Francesca Woodman

Devenir un ange

This publication offers a complete view on the work of Francesca Woodman whose photographs, poetic visual enigmas, keep inspiring artists today. A young prodigy in photography, she has left behind such a mature and complex body of work within a few years before her premature death at 22.

In a constant exploration of herself and of the medium, the photographer has almost only used her body in her images, always ready when the urgency of the representation comes along. Writing and drawing beforehand enable her to test ideas of compositions performed in abandoned buildings.

Several essays (in French) immerse us in the world of this extraordinary artist: the photography historian point of view (Anna Tellgren), the novelist one through the prism of the female body (Anna-Karin Palm) as well as the artist’s view, father of the photographer, George Woodman.
