This book invites the reader to an immersive experience through a selection of videos from the 1980s to 2022. In a polysemic narrative, the filmic works of Ange Leccia such as La Mer, Drapeau, Ô Superman and Chênes Verts, unfold in a long poetic tracking shot playing with the codes of Super-8 cinema. With no real beginning nor end, like a video loop, the images can be enjoyed as if entering a camera obscura. The grain of the video image, the sometimes saturated colors, the variations of light, the play of shadows immerse us in representations at the limit of abstraction, in a hypnotic palpitation. The material becomes almost pictorial. With Leccia, nature – earth, air, sea, fire, wind – awakens the senses: the viewer loses his bearings, his anchor points in reality.
For the book, Ange Leccia has conceived a series of diptychs taken from his video (D’)Après Monet, a sensitive evocation of the artist’s garden in Giverny, mixing views from Sacha Guitry’s film where we see Monet painting. His latest video, Au film du temps (2022), is also presented at the heart of the book.
