Invited to confront himself to the heritage of the Grotte Chauvet, Raphaël Dallaporta has imagined an immersive visual approach as if we were physically entering the cave. 

For ten years, Raphaël Dallaporta has developed photographic protocols which allow him to renew our look on a given subject, through unexpected images. The panoramas he imagined for the Chauvet Cave go beyond the traditional limits of the photographic medium, in order to account for the tortuous landscape of the cave, marked by engravings and paintings dated at 36 000 B.C. Inspired by the architect Richard Buckminster Fuller, Raphaël Dallaporta’s approach aims at rendering on a plane surface the 360° views of the cave.

These photographs reveal in a single image the different layers of history, from the first images of humanity to the current landscape, modelled by the water. These striking photographs skillfully blend together science, technique and artistic creation.
