Greco-Romanian sculptor, Dan Er Grigorescu (1917-1990) has grown up in a cosmopolitan environment. In the 1930’s he studies in Paris where he spends time with the artistic avant-garde. After the Second World War, he works as freelance photographer in Bucarest and collaborates with several magazines. He has published over 30 books including Delta du Danube (1966), Paris (1966), Brancusi (1967), Rome (1970), Calder (1971), Venise (1971), as well as Florence (1974).
Between 1964 and 1967, Dan Er Grigorescu documents the iconic sculptures made by Brancusi in his studio along with the ones of the monumental ensemble of Târgu Jiu, including the Endless Column. These photographs will be exhibited, a few years later, at the Venice Biennale in 1982.
