In the spirit of both an artist and a prayer book, La Fabrique des idoles questions the role of portrait in the representation of celebrities and particularly the develoment of the myth of the popular icon. Renowned for their photographs of celebrities (Juliette Armanet, Etienne Daho, Arielle Dombasle, Kylie Minogue, Stromae, Sylvie Vartan, etc.) and their presence in the nightlife of the 1980’s, Pierre et Gilles link up photography and musical icons.

Through the book, we discover the creative process of the idol, and how music and nightlife have infleunced the public’s view on celebrities. Previously unseen photographs of their studio complete the over 80 portraits, enabling us to better understand the inspirations and universe of Pierre et Gilles.
