American Reflections, the exhibition

After the exhibition Home in 2014, the gallery Les Douches pays tribute to the photographer again: Tom Arndt, American Reflections. This exhibition goes along with the book release American Reflections, published by Atelier EXB.

The exhibition gathers 20 photographs taken between 1970 and today, and printed by the artist. Under a sociological and empathetic gaze, Tom Arndt, one of the masters of documentary photography, captures fragments of the lives of women and men from the middle class, the agricultural world, the dreary suburbs or the hectic streets of the United States of America, half a century of American history is told in a wandering led like a road-movie.

Born in 1944 in Minneapolis, Tom Arndt studied photography at the College of Art and Design in his hometown, before continuing his studies at the University of Minnesota. The work in his photo lab holds a major place in his artistic practice, using different papers, playing with shades of gray and depths of black.

His works are present in major museum collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Los Angeles County Museum, the MoMA in New York and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. In 2009, he released "Home", an ode to his hometown and Minnesota, designed as a family album. He is represented in France by the Galerie Les Douches and in the United States by the Howard Greenberg Gallery.
