Alexis Cordesse exhibition

The Nicéphore Niépce Museum presents the exhibition Presences, a retrospective of Alexis Cordesse’s work. Impregnated by photojournalism, Alexis Cordesse revisits the different photographic genres (portrait, panoramic, landscape) questioning the images responsability and their imaginary potential. He thinks the photography with its shortcomings accompanying it with interviews or even recording extracts.
Presences looks back on ten sets made between 1995 and 2020, some of them are presented for the first time. Among them Talashi (2018-2020), at the crossroads of intimacy and history in which Alexis Cordesse takes the decision to include his work outside the scope of current events. Thus from vernacular photographs taken into exile, he evokes the Syrian conflict through the memories and testimonies of those who entrusted them to him.
