In 2004, the Musée précaire Albinet opened for two months at the foot of the Cité Albinet in Aubervilliers. This brainchild by Thomas Hirschhorn presented original works from the collections of the Centre Pompidou and the Fnac by eight artists who aimed to change the world: Marcel Duchamp, Kasimir Malevitch, Piet Mondrian, Salvador Dalí, Joseph Beuys, Le Corbusier, Andy Warhol and Fernand Léger.
Through the archives of this collective work (written correspondence between the partners of the project, traces of the various work-related meetings and encounters with the inhabitants, press photos and articles), commented on by Yvane Chapuis, co-director of the Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers and project curator, and two interviews by the artist with Guillaume Désanges, the book accounts for each stage linked to creating such an improbable work.
