Steve McCurry

Member of Magnum Photos since 1986, Steve McCurry was born in 1950 in Philadelphia and lives in New York. He studied at the College of Art and Architecture at Pennsylvania State University before working as a newspaper photographer. After two years, he embarked on the first of his many trips to India. His career took off when he crossed the Pakistani border just before the Soviet invasion. The photographs he brought back were published around the world and earned him the Robert Capa Gold Medal, the first in a long series of prestigious awards, including four World Press Photo awards that same year and two Olivier Rebbot Memorial Awards. More recently, he received the Century Medal from the Royal Photographic Society in London for his lifetime achievement.
