For more than a decade, the Belgian photographer Sébastien Van Malleghem has traveled around the world documenting the complex realities of present time. His reports, which explore the margins of society, have quickly gained international recognition. He is particularly known for his series on the questions of justice and security in Europe, published in the books Police (2013) and Prisons (2015). From the fall of Gaddafi in Libya (The Ruins of Power, 2012) to the squats of Berlin’s underground (The Last Shelter, 2013), and the morgues of Mexico City (Mexican Morgues, 2016), his images offer an uncompromising look at the judicial institutions and the lives of people caught up in the machinery of society. His empathetic yet rigorous approach has earned him numerous awards, including the Nikon Press Award and the Lucas Dolega Award (2015), as well as the Belfius National Press Photography Award (2018). His work is regularly exhibited in galleries and festivals, and published in the international press (Le Monde, The Times, The Washington Post). In 2017, he published the book Nordic Noir, praised by critics for its aesthetic power, and in 2020 Allfather.
