Pauline Vermare


Pauline Vermare is a photography historian and curator at the Brooklyn Museum. She was previously cultural director at Magnum Photos in New York and exhibition curator at the International Center of Photography (ICP) and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). From 2002 to 2009, she worked at the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson in Paris. She is the author of numerous interviews and texts published in Public, Private, Secret: on Photography & the Configuration of Self (2018), Une histoire mondiale des femmes photographes (2020), and All about Saul Leiter (2017), among others. She recently edited Femmes photographes japonaises (2024) and Les souvenirs des autres by Japanese photographer Akihiko Okamura at Atelier EXB (2024). Pauline Vermare sits on the board of directors of the Saul Leiter Foundation and the Catherine Leroy Endowment Fund.
