After studying art and psychology, Jean-Christian Bourcart (b. Colmar, 1960) moved to New York in 1998, where he befriended Nan Goldin. He will remain there until 2019. He has written and directed two feature-length fiction films and published several books dedicated to his series, including Forbidden City (1999), Traffic (2004), Camden (Prix Nadar 2011) and All about love (2014). His photographs are included in numerous international collections, including those of MoMA New York, the Fonds national d'art contemporain, the Maison européenne de la photographie in Paris, MAMCO in Geneva, the Shengda Art Museum in Shanghai, and the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk. His work has been exhibited at the Jeu de Paume, the Musée du Louvre-Lens, the Rencontres d'Arles, Visa pour l'image and the Museum für Photographie in Braunschweig. In 2020, Jean-Christian Bourcart bequeathed his archives to the Musée Nicéphore Niépce in Chalon-sur-Saône, which will present a multi-faceted exhibition in autumn 2024. He lives and works in Arles.
