Robert Adams

Born in 1937, Robert Adams briefly taught literature at university. Since then, pursuing a career as a photographer and writer, he has published more than twenty-five books and his photographs are present in museums around the world. Robert Adams is recognized for his photographic work on the transformation of the landscape of the American West and his environmental consciousness. His photographs testify to the tragic action of man on nature as well as his quest for redemptive light and beauty within degraded landscapes without staging effects. Robert Adams has been the subject of numerous exhibitions around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1979, the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1989, the Haus der Kunst in Munich and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in 2005. In 2014, a traveling retrospective of his work, The Place We Live, was presented at the Jeu de Paume in Paris. .
