Alexis Cordesse

The photographic work of Alexis Cordesse (b.1971) regularly associates image with text or sound, exploring their complementarity and their relationship to the historical narrative. First a photo reporter, Alexis Cordesse has covered the major conflicts of the post-Cold War era. From the mid-1990s, his practice has moved away from photo reporting. He returns to the areas of current affairs (Rwanda, Palestine, etc.) with other ethical and aesthetic requirements to offer images likely to translate a reality other than the one that generally reaches us through the media. His works have been presented at Documenta XI in Kassel (2002), at the ICP in New York (2003), at the Louvre as part of the exhibition Une brève histoire de l’avenir (2015). They are part of many public and private collections, including the National Contemporary Art Fund, the FRAC Auvergne, the Nicéphore Niépce Museum, the National Library of France and the Rencontres d’Arles. Alexis Cordesse lives and works in Paris. .
