Byung-Hun Min

Born in South Korea in 1955, Byung-Hun Min has spent over 30 years developing a singular oeuvre in which ideas of reserve, and the tension of perception and silence, create images at the edges of the visible. Self-taught, he has developed a photographic technique that emphasizes filtered light and subtle colors of off-whites and grays. His art hints at, leaves as much to the imagination as it offers to the eyes. In the tradition of Cartier-Bresson, Min considers that photography’s major quality is its ability to record “the decisive moment”. Landscapes, trees, riverbanks, birds: space is captured in all its ephemeral materiality. Byung Hun Min’s photography mixes the Korean pictorial tradition and Western poetry in its perception and reproduction of a suspended moment.
