Kate Barry

The daughter of artists Jane Birkin and John Barry, Kate Barry (1967-2013) started her career as a stylist. She took her first fashion photographs in 1996 and collaborated with the biggest publications of the industry, such as Vogue, Elle and Vanity Fair.

Prematurely deceased at 46 years old, Kate Barry leaves behind her a remarkable photographic work, though unknown from the general public. Her first solo exhibition took place in Tokyo in 2000. Her exhibition Cornered, portraits-paysages at the Léo Scheer gallery in 2005 displayed color landscapes in dialogue with black and white portraits of personalities. Dinard autobiographie immobilière (Éditions de la table ronde) was published in 2012, associating texts and photographs, in collaboration with writer Jean Rolin. In 2013, Kate Barry presented 30 portraits of actresses during the first edition of the Kyotographie festival, as well as her exhibition Point of view – portraits/natures-mortes, the same year in Paris, for the opening of the Galerie Cinéma Anne-Dominique Toussaint.
