Born in Redhill (England) in 1960, Steven Pippin developed from childhood an interest for mechanics and manufactured object. He obtained an engineering degree from the University of Brighton, and went on to transform everyday life objects into cameras or kinetic sculptures. His work is included in numerous collections, among which those of the Centre Pompidou, the MoMA, the Guggenheim Museum in New York or the Tate Gallery in London, the Collection Lafayette Anticipation – Fonds de dotation Famille Moulin, and the FRAC of Limousin and Bretagne. In 1999, Steven Pippin was shortlisted for the prestigious Turner Prize, with the work Laundromat Locomotion. His work is represented by Gavin Brown’s Enterprise in New York. He lives and works in Greenwich.
