The Nederlands Fotomuseum presents a survey show on Cas Oorthuys (1908-1975), Dutch photographer who traveled the world between the inter-war years and the 1970's, leaving an unprecedented testimony of about 500 000 images. After his secret photographs taken as a member of the resistance during World War II, he catches through his lenses the emergence of modern society as well as timeless landscapes, socities and cultures. This body of work ,intertwining personal and historical narratives, is presented through contact sheets made by the artist along with large-format images.

This exhibition and monograph published by Éditions Xavier Barral, reveal for the first time the breadth of Cas Oorthuys' oeuvre which only a small part had been published.
