The Maison de l’Amérique latine, in Paris, presents L’Invention de Morel ou la Machine à images, an exhibition conceived by Thierry Dufrêne, gathering fifteen artists from different horizons. Inspired by the fantastic novel by Adolfo Bioy Casares, published in 1940, in which a runaway finds refuge on a desert island, that shelters a machine capable of giving immortality. The influence exerted by this novel on several generations of artists shows through pieces of all kinds: photographs, installations, videos, holograms, kinetic, comic strip… that are prompted by L’Invention de Morel, or that share the same themes, such as incommunicability, loneliness, illusion, the quest for the past, the technical power of the machine…

On this occasion, the Éditions Xavier Barral release the full text by Adolfo Bioy Casarès, with the pictures of the artists’ creations, accompanied by two essays by the art historian Thierry Dufrêne and the philosopher Jean-Pierre Zarader.
