The Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation presents from May 11 to July 30 the exhibition Bilad es Sudan by Claude Iverné, winner of the 2015 HCB Award.

In 1988, the photographer undertakes a journey following the traces of an old trans-Saharan track, joining Egypt to the Sudanese sultanate (La piste des quarante jours). Thus began the project to document this territory: Sudan. A keen observer, Claude Iverné made the determined choice to wander, to the point of learning the official language, Arabic. He builds his narration through time beyond any event or topicality. The richness of the details in his photographs invites us to learn more about the country and its history, in order to understand every interpretation level of the image.

Accompanying the exhibition, the monograph Bilad es Sudan is published by Éditions Xavier Barral.
